Binsui Whetstone

Binsui is a natural sandstone whetstone, closely related to Amakusa, but denser and generally finer. This particular stone is rated by the manufacturer as 2000 grit (JIS) — the grit rating is clearly marked on both the stone and its packaging.

It works with water and produces an autoslurry, but it also performs well with additional slurry from other stones. One of its key strengths is that it doesn’t load up or clog — any swarf is easily washed away with water.

The metal removal rate is easy to control by adjusting the pressure. The level of refinement can be tuned using the amount and type of slurry. Binsui is a very practical stone — simple to use, easy to maintain, and not too sensitive to storage conditions.
